Nike's self-lacing shoes | Adapt BB for Basketball players

We knew that one day we will have self-lacing shoes, but Nike has officially introduced it's first self-lacing basketball shoes know as the Adapt BB. These new shoes are designed to provide a customised fit for every basketball player. According to Nike company, thanks to FitAdapt which provided a power-lacing system that can be adjusted manually or with a smartphone app.

During the basketball game, a player's foot can expand almost half size, which can affect their comfort level and impact of their movement and performance in the game. That is the issue Nike is trying to solve with Adapt BB, said The sportswear giant. 

Eric Avar, Nike's VP Creative Director of Innovation says that the company chose basketball as the first sport to showcase Adapt and it's FitAdapt tech because of the demands that hoopers put on their shoes. It will improve the athlete's experience because it has the ability to quickly loosen or tighten their shoes while playing the game. Adapt BB is essentially the next level from Flywire and Flynit, two fabric-based technologies that were created to make custom fit shoes for each individual.

Nike is calling that it's the most advanced fit solution to date, you can control it's power laces through buttons on the Adapt or using a smartphone. When you put on the Adapt BB, it senses the tension needed by your feet and adjusts the built-in motor with trained gears to keep each foot snug in the shoes. Its new lacing system can create 32 pounds of force, allowing it to stay up with the player in any range of movement, said Nike.

Using the Adapt mobile application, the player can change fit setting over the course of a game, as well as change the LED colours on the shoes. Benefits of having wireless connectivity in the Adapt BB is that it will support firmware updates, which means it will get extra features and improvements down the road. 

Nike says Adapt BB for basketball players is just a start, soon the technology will get to more sports in the future. For now, if you want to buy a pair for yourself, the Adapt BBs are set to arrive at the beginning of February.
