WhatsApp Stickers integration for third-party keyboards

Last year, WhatsApp introduced stickers feature that has been talked of the town. But to enhance the use of stickers on the other instant messaging app, the Facebook-owned company has now developing integration with third-party keyboards. As reported, Google's Gboard is to be the first keyboard who will have stickers that will be integrated within WhatsApp. However, other keyboard apps will get this feature shortly. The purpose of the new feature is to essentially make a variety of stickers available for sharing on WhatsApp.

WABetaInfo reports WhatsApp for Android has the integration of stickers since December 12, but this function is not available on Gboard right now. It is said that WhatsApp is waiting for Google to complete the testing on Gboard. The new feature will enable the chat app to automatically convert stickers that is available on Gboard into WhatsApp compatible sticker format WebP. This feature will also reach out to other third-party keyboards over time.

At present, the stickers that you are using from Gboard gets converted into an image on WhatsApp but as soon as WhatsApp makes the integration with Google's Gboard users, the stickers will appear as proper stickers.

WhatsApp brought stickers back in October. The app doesn't have many stickers by default, it allows the users to download sticker pack from Google Play Store or App Store. There is also an option for individuals to create personalized stickers. Adding the feature to add stickers from the keyboard will the experience to the next level.

Particularly, Gboard has Emojis Minis stickers packs and 'Minis' selfie stickers that bring a list of selfie sticker options on the virtual keyboard. Google upgraded the Gboard app for Android devices with AI(artificial-intelligence) backed suggestion for adding new stickers last November.

This feature could make sticker sharing on WhatsApp easier and more fun. It will take time to see the official update for WhatsApp and Gboard to enable the new experience.
